Top Ten Work from Home Tips For 2022

It has been over two years since the pandemic, and we have all learned how to adapt to work from home, have we? A concept that was restricted in some industries has now been accepted. Maybe you have developed a system that works for you; or found new ways to improve your workflow. Working from home can be distracting, and you may not feel motivated. There are days we don’t stop working, and for some of us, that is where the problem lies; mental health is essential, and we have to take care of ourselves and know when to take breaks. Here are ten crucial tips for working from home.

1. Lighting is key!

Choose a space that has natural light; there are so many benefits to having natural light vs artificial light. It heightens the brain’s production of the mood-enhancing chemical serotonin. The more light we are exposed to, the more serotonin we produce. Halogen bulbs are incandescent types that give a close approximation of natural daylight, known as “white light.” Colours appear sharper under halogen light, and the bulbs can be dimmed. Extra tip: Red light in the evening can help improve mental health; red light in the evening helps increase melatonin secretion, which leads to better sleep at night. Better sleep at night leads to improved cognition and overall mental wellbeing.

2. Use a dedicated office space.

Choose the perfect spot for your home office. Find a place where you will be productive and will love to work. Make sure you have everything you need. Having a dedicated space will help family members understand the boundaries; you need to establish privacy, so CLOSE the door to eliminate any distractions.

3. Find decor to inspire you and fit your personality.

Choose decor that is not only functional but inspirational. Find something that fits your personality; you can make a dramatic change by just adding a gorgeous piece of art, a beautiful rug, and adding some greenery will add liveliness to your space.

4. Get Everything You Need To Work Comfortably From Home.

You may need to update your internet connection or find the necessary hardware/software to get your job done by either obtaining it yourself or asking your employer for it. You will need to figure out what you need to bring your office up to standard.

5. Maintain a Routine.

Create a consistent morning and evening routine and stick to it. It could be tiresome and boring working from home, depending on your personality. Having a practice will help you stay motivated and stay productive, which will help with your health and wellness.

6. Get Ready For Your Work Day.

It would help if you prepared yourself for a workday mentally, so get ready as you normally would when you would have to drive to work, don’t work in your pyjamas all day, as tempting as that may be 🤣 it can harm your productivity. You want to set yourself up for success.

7. Maintain Consistent Working Hours.

You need to keep the same work hours as if you were in an office. You can easily fall into working longer hours as you don’t have any travel time to deal with and be comfortable in your home, but it will harm your mental health and be ineffective if you work longer hours.

8. Set Realistic Expectations.

One of the best ways to keep yourself accountable while working from home is to schedule your tasks and work with specific goals in mind. Using a to-do list to manage your tasks to stay organized and track your progress can be helpful. Make sure to set realistic goals. It is always better to achieve more than fall short of your expectations.

9. Connect with people.

Becoming too isolated can cause depression and loneliness, especially for older adults experiencing stricter self-isolation parameters. If you’re working for a company working from home can get lonely, so make it a practice to reach out to coworkers and stay connected to your team. As an entrepreneur, you may be on your own; depending on where you are in your business; networking can help keep you sane and enables you to create significant connections to help grow your business.

10. Take a Few Breaks – Take care of yourself.

It is standard to take breaks; however, working from home, you may not feel the need to take breaks, but sitting at a desk all day is awful for your health. Take breaks as much as possible to let your body and mind relax. You can take a short walk between tasks, get a snack, or do anything else that works for you. Create habits to maintain your health by exercising, eating well, and getting enough sleep. Your body will be in great shape when you do this, but your mental health will also improve.
